How To Tie A Slim Beauty Knot

The Slim Beauty Knot (AKA the Tag Knot, the Necktie Knot) is one of those essential four-in-hand knots that every man should know how to tie. It's simple and quick, and it's a very good choice for most dress ties:

The Slim Beauty has a much smaller knot than its larger cousin, the Windsor . If you're wearing a skinny tie, you can hardly go wrong with this knot.

If you're not familiar with the four-in-hand knot, start here: How To Tie A Four In Hand Knot . Let's get to it!

1. Extend your tie and lay it on a flat surface so that the wide end is on the right and the narrow end is on the left. Cross the wide end underneath the narrow end.

2. Bring it back over, this time crossing from left to right. This forms an "x" on your tie with a fold just below it ...

3. ... bring the tip of the wide end around again, sloping toward the right. It should extend about one inch below the narrow end ...

4. ... and then bring it up through the "x" that you made earlier with the fold just under it, like so:

5. Flip your wrist over so that your palm is facing down along the tie. This will create a dimple near the fold where you'll begin your knot.

6. Remove the wide end from underneath the narrow end and pull it straight down, so that the dimple is pulled almost all the way through and you're left with a simple knot:

7. Tug on both sides of your tie in order to tighten it up around the collar. This will cause excess fabric to pop up around the knot. This is good--it means that you have enough fabric for an even, symmetrical knot.

8. Smooth out your tie and adjust your collar as needed. Job done!
